Biography

Jonas Coe (1759–1822) was a contemporary of the American Revolution and the founding era, living through the birth of the nation and its early development. His life encompassed the transition from colonial times to the establishment of the United States as an independent power.

Coe's resting place at Oakwood Cemetery honors his memory and his place in the community. His years of life witnessed the tremendous growth and change that characterized the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in America.
