Biography

José Julián Acosta (1825–1891) was a Puerto Rican intellectual and writer whose pen explored the hopes and concerns of his homeland during an era of enduring change.

His thoughtful words and advocacy for knowledge and justice continue to echo, and he is laid to rest at Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery, in the company of many who shaped Puerto Rico's cultural memory.
