Biography
Joseph B. Foraker was born in 1846 and went on to distinguish himself as a soldier, attorney, and statesman. A Civil War veteran, he later served two terms as governor of Ohio before winning election to the United States Senate, where he became known for his defense of civil rights and his leadership in addressing the needs of veterans.
In the Senate he was a powerful advocate for fair business practices, national unity, and a just foreign policy, and he wrote with conviction during the Spanish-American War and its aftermath.
