Biography
Joseph F. Weis, Jr. drew on wartime experience as he built a legal career that culminated on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Known for thoughtful opinions and a calm courtroom presence, he worked tirelessly to uphold civil rights, protect veterans, and strengthen federal jurisprudence.
He also devoted time to mentoring young lawyers and participating in community service, insisting that the law should serve the people and keep faith with those who sacrificed for it. His memory is honored at Arlington National Cemetery, where colleagues and family reflect on a life of integrity.
