Biography

Joseph Patterson, born in 1752, belonged to the generation that labored to turn wilderness into farms and small settlements; he kept a steady hand as the new nation charted its course, offering counsel and hospitality to fellow pioneers. His presence gave neighbors the assurance that ordinary duties could be met with care and endurance.

When he died in 1832, he was laid to rest in Allegheny Cemetery, where his name joins other steady stewards of the early republic's endeavors.
