Biography

Klement Gottwald was a prominent and complex figure in Czechoslovak history whose political career culminated in his leadership of the Communist Party during a tumultuous era. He played a leading role in the events of 1948 and in the subsequent transformation of the state.

While his legacy remains the subject of much debate, Gottwald’s impact on the political life of Czechoslovakia is undeniable, and his interment at Olšany Cemetery marks the final chapter of a life lived at the center of national change.
