Biography
L. L. Langstroth, born in 1810, earned the title “father of American beekeeping” through his pioneering work on hive design and bee behavior. A minister and scholar by training, he merged practical science with deep reverence for the rural world, publishing pivotal works that allowed farmers everywhere to nurture thriving colonies with less harm to the bees.
His invention of the movable-frame hive transformed apiculture, encouraging patient observation and humane treatment of bees. Langstroth’s legacy endures in the countless beekeepers who continue to rely on his principles to support both pollination and sustainable agriculture.
