Biography

Lajos Vargyas, born in 1914, was a folklorist whose meticulous research and warm teaching ensured that Hungarian folk songs and stories lived on in scholarly and popular circles.

He collaborated widely with musicians and scholars, guiding research and exhibitions, and after his death in 2007 he was laid to rest in the New Public Cemetery in Budapest, leaving a legacy of cultural stewardship.
