Biography

Pál Maléter was a Hungarian military officer who rose to prominence through his service and commitment to the integrity of his homeland. His leadership during the evening of the 1956 uprising, when he attempted to negotiate peace and protect civilians, left a lasting impression on those who witnessed his courage.

After the suppression of the revolution he was executed, yet his name endures as a symbol of honor and sacrifice, and he is remembered at the New Public Cemetery in Budapest as one who stood firm for his beliefs.
