Biography

Leigh Wade joined the Army Air Service when the promise of flight was still unfolding, spending the decades that followed forging stronger wings for the nation. Whether he was test-flying new aircraft, guiding young aviators through the turbulent years between the wars, or leading squadrons in World War II, he brought a steady hand to the evolving challenges of military aviation.

His leadership bridged the daring pioneers of early flight and the disciplined professionals of the Cold War, and he continued to support the aviation community after retirement, encouraging precise flying and a culture of safety. He is remembered by fellow airmen and family alike for his calm resolve and the mentorship he offered until his passing, and he now rests at Arlington National Cemetery.
