Biography
Les Kurbas was a renowned Ukrainian actor and theatrical innovator who made significant contributions to the development of modern Ukrainian drama and performance. His work in theater helped shape the cultural identity of Ukraine during the early 20th century.
Kurbas was executed at Sandarmokh in 1937 during the Great Purge, a tragedy that deprived Ukrainian theater of one of its most creative and influential figures. He is remembered as a martyr of Soviet political repression.
