Lord Frederick Cavendish
1836–1882 (age 46)
Biography
Lord Frederick Cavendish carried the responsibilities of public office with earnest resolve, believing that politics ought to be a service to all men rather than a pursuit of factional gain, and he returned to Ireland in 1882 to begin work as Chief Secretary with a heart for reform.
His promise was cut short by the tragedy of Phoenix Park, yet his reputation for integrity endures, and his memory is tenderly kept near Cartmel Priory where mourners once gathered in his honour.
