Biography

Lorna E. Lockwood shattered expectations when she became the first woman to serve on the Arizona Supreme Court and later the nation’s first female chief justice of a state high court, bringing keen intellect and measured judgment to the bench. Throughout her tenure she championed impartiality, encouraged legal education for women, and reminded colleagues that every case touched human lives.

Even after retiring, she traveled to speak with students, mentored young lawyers, and maintained friendships across the legal community, leaving a legacy of courage and grace before joining her ancestors at Greenwood/Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery.
