Biography
Louis Hempelmann, born in 1914, applied his training as a physician to protect his fellow scientists as head of radiation safety during the Manhattan Project and later shared his expertise through teaching and advising on radiation health across the nation.
His thoughtful approach to the mysteries of atomic energy and compassionate care for those exposed to radiation are remembered by colleagues visiting his gravesite at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
