Biography
Maltbie Davenport Babcock, ordained a Presbyterian minister, served congregations in Ohio, New York, and beyond, becoming known for his stirring sermons, essays, and his talent for translating faith into poetry. In 1901 he penned the hymn 'This Is My Father's World,' a gentle anthem that continues to invite generations to see God in all creation.
Beyond his writings, he infused his ministry with a love for missions, education, and reconciliation, encouraging parishioners to care for the poor and to find wonder in everyday blessings, and he was laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery at the end of a life devoted to the gospel.
