Margaret Green Draper
1727–1804 (age 77)
Biography
Margaret Green Draper (1727–1804) took the helm of the Massachusetts Gazette after her husband Richard Draper’s death, ensuring that colonial officials and loyalist readers continued to receive faithful printings of news, proclamations, and correspondence even as Boston’s streets turned against the Crown.
When the city fell and British forces withdrew, she settled in London, continued to oversee the press, and kept the stories of New England alive across the Atlantic until her death, after which she was laid to rest at Bunhill Fields.
