Biography
Maria Zambaco, born in 1843 to a prominent Greek family, became one of the most recognizable muses of the Pre-Raphaelite circle while also establishing herself as a sculptor and painter of considerable talent.
Her collaborations with artists such as Edward Burne-Jones reflected a keen sensibility for romantic and classical forms, and she continued to produce intimate portraits and bronze reliefs while supporting the artistic community of West Norwood until her death in 1914.
