Biography

Marie-Therese Bourgeois Chouteau was a pioneering woman of the frontier era whose life spanned the formative years of St. Louis. As a member of the Chouteau family through marriage, she was integral to one of the region's most important mercantile dynasties.

Her long life witnessed tremendous change and growth in the territory. Marie-Therese was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, where she is remembered as a matriarch of early St. Louis society.
