Matilda Smith became one of the first female botanical artists to be employed at Kew Gardens, producing thousands of precise illustrations that brought the world of plants to life for botanists and the public alike.

Her lovingly rendered plates helped document countless species and ensured that future generations could appreciate the diversity of the plant kingdom, and she now rests in Richmond Cemetery.
