Matthew Harvey

Biography

Matthew Harvey was born in 1781 and lived through the early years of the American republic, witnessing the nation's founding and early development. His long life extended into the nineteenth century, allowing him to observe the growth and transformation of the United States from its earliest days as an independent nation. Though records of his specific accomplishments are limited, he was part of the generation that helped establish American communities and institutions.

Harvey lived until 1866, a remarkable span that allowed him to witness nearly a century of American history, including the Civil War and the beginning of Reconstruction. He was laid to rest in Old North Cemetery, where his memory is preserved among those from the nation's early years.
