Biography

Matthew Whitworth-Aylmer, 5th Baron Aylmer, served in high office as a British soldier and colonial administrator, including a term as governor-general of British North America. His lengthy public career demonstrated a steadfast commitment to duty and the governance of outposts of the Empire.

After returning to England he remained engaged with military and political affairs, and his burial at West Norwood Cemetery is a testament to the esteem in which he was held by peers and the public alike.
