Maxim Gauci

Biography
Born in Malta but forging his career in London, Maxim Gauci became a painter and lithographer whose delicate prints brought specimens of the natural world to a wider public. His workshops supplied botanical and zoological illustrations that scientists and collectors prized for their detail and color.
He was a generous mentor to younger artists and an influential figure in moving lithography to the forefront of scientific publishing; his memory is cherished among the monuments of Highgate Cemetery.
