May Morris
1862–1938 (age 76)
Biography
May Morris, daughter of William Morris, became one of the most respected artisans of the Arts and Crafts movement, heading the embroidery department at Morris & Co. and insisting on a rigorous standard of workmanship that trained young women in design, stitching, and the values of handmade textiles.
She continued to champion craft education, editing publications and leading societies dedicated to preserving the movement's ideals, and her memory rests quietly in St. George's Churchyard.
