Biography
Merrill Moores was an Indianapolis lawyer born in 1856 who believed the law ought to protect every citizen. He parlayed his courtroom experience into a seat in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1915 to 1923, where he addressed issues ranging from transportation to veterans’ care.
When his time in Washington ended he returned to private practice while remaining active in civic organizations, schools, and his church, pressing for clear communication between elected officials and the people they served. He chose Crown Hill Cemetery as his final resting place, confident that future generations would remember his commitment to the rule of law.
