Biography

Born in China and raised to embrace both cultures, Ming Chang immigrated to the United States and joined the Navy, eventually becoming the first Chinese-American to attain flag rank. Over more than three decades, he served in shipboard, staff, and acquisition roles, always emphasizing excellence, integrity, and opportunity.

He inspired countless Asian American servicemembers and worked to strengthen the bonds between the Navy and diverse communities across the country. His legacy of inclusion and quiet service is honored at Arlington National Cemetery.
