Biography

Ogata Gekkō (1859–1920) was a distinguished painter whose artistic vision captured the essence of late Meiji and early Taishō Japan. His works reflected both traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern sensibilities, earning him recognition as a significant figure in the nation's art world.

Gekkō's paintings continue to be celebrated for their technical mastery and emotional depth. His contributions to Japanese visual culture helped define an important transitional period in the nation's artistic development. He was interred at Zōshigaya Cemetery.
