Biography

Pedro Salinas was a leading voice of the Generation of '27 whose luminous poems explored love, solitude, and the exile that followed the Spanish Civil War with uncluttered clarity. He shepherded new lyric forms into being so that each line could measure longing without losing tenderness, and his essays helped readers understand how poetry can hold both joy and mourning.

After leaving Spain, he taught at institutions such as Wellesley College and elsewhere in the United States, continuing to compose and correspond with fellow writers while offering solace to readers across continents. His enduring verse still brings comfort to those who visit Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery, where his grave stands among the hills of San Juan.
