Peter French

1849–1897 (age 48)

Biography

Peter French established one of the West's most ambitious cattle operations, the French-Glenn Livestock Company, pioneering irrigation and grazing techniques that placed southeastern Oregon on a new footing before his body was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Those who knew him recall a man who demanded hard work yet also recognized the worth of his neighbors, investing in schools and roads so that the frontier families he employed could put down deeper roots.
