Biography

Philip Van Cortlandt was born in 1749 into a prominent family with deep roots in the Hudson Valley region. As a landowner and merchant, he played an important role in the commercial and agricultural development of his community during a pivotal era in American history.

Philip lived to the age of eighty-two, passing away in 1831. His life encompassed the American Revolution and the early decades of the republic, and he was laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery, a final resting place befitting his standing in the community.
