Biography
Phoebe Couzins, born in 1842, broke barriers as one of the first female lawyers in the United States and used her platform to fight for women’s suffrage and civil rights.
She traveled widely, spoke eloquently, and organized with tenacity, always believing that a just society required the participation of every citizen. Her courageous work is forever commemorated at Bellefontaine Cemetery, where her trailblazing spirit inspires future generations.
