Biography
Prince Alemayehu was the son of Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia, born in 1861 during a period of significant political upheaval in the Horn of Africa. Following the British military expedition to Ethiopia in 1868, he was taken to England as a young boy, where he spent his formative years in British society.
Raised in England and educated in the traditions of the British aristocracy, Prince Alemayehu remained a notable figure representing Ethiopian heritage in Victorian society. His early death at eighteen in 1879 marked a poignant end to a life lived between two worlds, and he was laid to rest with honor in St George's Chapel, Windsor, a testament to the respect accorded to him during his time in Britain.
