Richard H. Whiteley

1830–1890 (age 60)

Biography

Richard H. Whiteley brought the perspective of a Georgia son to the halls of the state legislature and later to the U.S. House of Representatives, and he is remembered in Columbia Cemetery for the earnestness he displayed during the turbulent years after the Civil War.

He labored to reconcile regional differences, defend the rule of law, and speak up for the people whose stories he carried back to the capital.
