Richard J. Oglesby
1824–1899 (age 75)
Biography
Richard J. Oglesby answered the call of public service with the earnestness of a neighbor who knew the value of hard work, helping to knit together farming villages and emerging towns as the century advanced.
He preferred to let deeds speak, bringing calm reasoning to debates at town meetings and encouraging young people to take part in civic life, and his memory rests gently at Elkhart Cemetery.
