Biography

Robert Karl Reischauer (1907–1937) was a young scholar whose brief but promising life was marked by intellectual pursuit and cross-cultural engagement. His time in Japan during the early Shōwa period represented the continuing tradition of Western scholars seeking to understand Japanese civilization and contribute to international understanding.

Though his life was cut short, Reischauer's dedication to learning and cultural exchange left an impression on those who knew him. His burial at Tama Cemetery reflects his connection to the scholarly and expatriate communities in Japan.
