Biography
Robert M. Patton (1809–1885) combined entrepreneurship with public duty, growing his businesses while presiding as governor during Alabama’s difficult postwar readjustment and championing railroad development and fiscal responsibility. He kept his eyes on both recovery and progress, helping to restore confidence in the state’s institutions.
He rests at Maple Hill Cemetery, where his contributions to Alabama’s reconstruction are fondly recalled.
