Biography
Russell E. Dougherty (1920–2007) answered the call to serve as a young officer in the Army Air Corps and rose through the ranks of the U.S. Air Force to become a four-star general, helping to guide the nation’s strategic air mission during the tense years of the Cold War.
He continued to mentor airmen and advise on defense matters after his retirement, leaving a quiet but enduring example of steady leadership; today Arlington National Cemetery holds his final honors.
