Biography
Samuel Van Dyke Stout was a member of Nashville's early community, living through the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. His lifetime encompassed the founding and development of Nashville as a permanent settlement and growing city.
From 1786 to 1850, Stout witnessed the transformation of Middle Tennessee from frontier territory to an established region. He was buried in Nashville City Cemetery, where his memory is preserved among the city's pioneer residents.
