Biography
Samuel Whitbread (1764–1815) carried on the family brewing business while devoting himself to a lengthy career in the House of Commons as MP for Bedford. He used the influence gained from commerce to speak for those in need of legal reform, improved education, and fair labour laws.
His efforts extended to the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Cardington, where he oversaw charitable efforts for the poor and encouraged the expansion of learning for the local children, leaving a memorial that reflects both practical concern and compassionate leadership.
