Sarah Bagley

1806–1889 (age 83)

Labor Activist

Biography

Sarah Bagley rose from the mills of Lowell to become one of the most persistent voices for the rights of textile workers, organizing unions, publishing perspectives in the Lowell Offering, and pressing legislators for a ten-hour workday.

She carried that advocacy throughout her long life, reminding future generations that dignity in labor belongs to every working person, and now rests with other reformers in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
