Sarah Hildreth Butler

Biography

Sarah Hildreth Butler, born in 1816, upheld the traditions of her family’s land with grace, raising children and stabilizing the homestead in the years when the Hildreth settlement blossomed. She was known for her steady work in the fields and for keeping the family tables full through harvests both lean and plentiful.

Her kindness extended beyond the farmyard; friends and neighbors found comfort in her ready smile and generous hospitality, and she took pride in welcoming new families into the community until her death in 1876.
