Biography

Saul M. Ginsburg devoted his life to preserving the music and history of Russian Jewry, publishing collections that saved countless melodies and texts from disappearing. His meticulous scholarship helped to define the study of Jewish ethnomusicology, offering future generations a foundation from which to appreciate their cultural heritage.

He was also known for his warm mentorship, encouraging young scholars to dig deeply into archives and to treat every story with reverence. The research he gathered and the friendships he fostered continue to inform scholars today and keep alive the rich traditions he so carefully curated.
