Seth Ledyard Phelps

Biography

Seth Ledyard Phelps (1824–1885) earned a reputation as a courageous naval officer whose actions helped secure vital waterways during the Civil War. His tactical skill and calm demeanor under pressure inspired those around him and contributed to a more secure nation.

After the war, he remained devoted to public life and was laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, where his service is remembered with respect.
