Shmaryahu Levin

1867–1935 (age 68)

Biography

Shmaryahu Levin (1867–1935) devoted his life to Jewish public service, beginning with his work in the Russian Empire, speaking on behalf of Jewish rights, and later becoming an ardent Zionist delegate shaping the movement's political agenda.

He traveled widely to galvanize support for settlements in Palestine, promoted Hebrew education, and, after moving to the Yishuv, remained a respected voice for national institutions; his grave in Trumpeldor cemetery is a place of quiet reflection.
