Sir Thomas Buxton, 1st Baronet
1786–1845 (age 59)
Biography
Sir Thomas Buxton, 1st Baronet, in both boardroom and Parliament championed causes that reached far beyond his Norfolk estate, notably lending his voice to the abolition of slavery and to the reform of prisons and education. A former businessperson, he used his wealth and influence to press lawmakers toward mercy and sound governance.
The faithful of St Martin in Overstrand remember him as a generous presence who believed enterprise should serve others and that a Christian sense of responsibility obliged each to improve the condition of mankind.
