Biography
Sophia B. Packard devoted herself to training women to serve as educators and missionaries; after teaching in the Northeast she answered a call to work in the South and co-founded what became the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary alongside Harriet E. Giles.
Her leadership and tireless fundraising drew support from northern allies and from the women she mentored, laying the foundation for Spelman College and inspiring countless students to embrace lives of learning and service.
