Biography
Stephen F. Chadwick rose from the Oregon frontier to become governor in the late 1870s, guiding the state through a period of political change with steady resolve and a deep respect for the rule of law.
Beyond his time in office he continued to advise his fellow citizens and contribute to the civic life of Salem, leaving a legacy of thoughtful public service honored at Salem Pioneer Cemetery.
