Biography

Thomas Biddle was an active participant in the fur trade and merchant commerce of the early nineteenth century. Born in 1790, he engaged in the commercial enterprises that connected the American frontier with eastern markets, establishing himself as a trader whose business ventures contributed to the economic networks of the Mississippi Valley and western territories.

His life was cut short in 1831 at the age of forty-one, concluding a relatively brief but active career in frontier commerce. Biddle was buried at Calvary Cemetery, reflecting his status as a respected businessman whose trading activities were part of the broader commercial development of the American West during this formative period.
