Biography
Thomas Blakiston dedicated his life to the careful study of natural history and to the exploration of remote regions; his surveys of the Pacific Northwest and later of Hokkaido helped to clarify the geography and wildlife of those regions for scientists of his day.
He left behind a legacy of field notes, maps, and species observations that continue to guide those who follow in the footsteps of early naturalists, and his name endures in the ecological boundary known as the Blakiston Line.
