Biography

Thomas Hardeman, Jr., born in 1825, was a Georgia lawyer and legislator whose career spanned both state and national concerns, including service as speaker of the state house and later as a U.S. congressman. His leadership during turbulent years reflected a commitment to his constituents and to the rule of law.

He weathered the Civil War era with a focus on community resilience, and after returning to civilian life he continued to advocate for education and public welfare; he now lies in Rose Hill Cemetery, remembered for his steady stewardship of civic responsibilities following his death in 1891.
