Biography
Thomas M. Norwood rose from a Georgia upbringing to national prominence as a devoted public servant during Reconstruction and beyond. As a member of Congress, he took care to defend the rights of his constituents while seeking thoughtful compromise in a time of deep national wounds.
Later in life he continued to serve through the law and civic debate, mentoring younger men and women who admired his measured rhetoric and commitment to community life. He now lies at Laurel Grove North Cemetery, honored as a statesman who championed Georgia's voice.
